Swapping self-care for soul-care brings a guilt free way of pushing pause on life and taking time for the things you love... things that are not motivated by serving yourself, rather using the gifts God gave you to draw you in to His presence. #soulcare #selfcare #workingmom #workingmama #workingmothers #workingmotherhood #momblog #tampamomblog

Today, day 5... the Kindergartner had a rough start. So much pressure going to 5 days a week, all day and it got the most of her at drop off. The mommy in me wanted to let her stay in the car and drive back home and snuggle on the couch all day. But we’ve been down this road before and I did that and it only set us back more. So we did the hard thing... she dried her tears, I held mine in (until I pulled away and she couldn’t see and then I cried like a baby) and every hour on the hour I prayed for her day. There are SO many of you with first time school goers following this journey and if you’ve had tears I just wanted to remind you, you’re not alone! Hopefully they can all stand tall, be strong and God covers their days in joy! #momblog #momlife #workingmom #workingmama #workingmothers #tampablogger #workingmotherhood #firstdayofschool #kindergarten

While I was busy launching a book, this happened yesterday! Across the country kids are either back or preparing to go back to school. As parents we no longer worry about who they eat lunch with or what friends they will make, we now have a harsh reality of their safety. In our church service this week God spoke to my heart and reminded me that we can live in fear and trade in our joy or we can place the future of our kids who we love so much, but he loves more, in the hands of a great God. There’s peace in that decision but it’s one I have to revisit daily in my time with the Lord. So if fear has you down and is causing you to miss the smiles on your kids faces as they pose for a The first day photo, join me in handing it over to God because fear... it is a liar. “I have not given you a spirit of fear, I have given you power, love and self discipline.” 2 Tim 1:7

For a year and a half I spent any free time I had pouring over this book. It took vulnerability, dedication and several rounds of revision to get it right. This is not a memoir and it’s not about me... if you are a working mama, thinking about being a working mama, married to a working mama or friends with one... this book was written for you. It was written to acknowledge the challenges, provide practical guidance and tips for living purposefully and finding more of what sets your soul on fire. This is not about selling a book to make a profit, this is about bringing something into the world that I pray will reach at least one other mama in the trenches of parenting while balancing a career. Seeing this finally come to fruition is an unbelievable dream come true and the craziest part is... if you order it you’ll get to see it in print at the same time I do! I haven’t held the book yet but I’ve prayed over each reader and each person who’s story I’ve shared on its pages. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for following along on this journey...now it’s time to go buy the book! Living for the weekend? Leave it to a Hollywood comedian to preach this truth! 🙌🏻 yes I’ve been guilty of this thought a time or two until God started to show me there was a different way to live. Some days I actually have to think...”what day is it?” Because there can be beauty, joy and fulfillment in all day. Is it Wednesday? #workingmom #workingmama #workingmothers #workingmother #momblog #tampablogger

For the entire year it took me to write and revise This One’s For The Working Mama, I took a break from consuming new content (I.e. reading). I didn’t want the words of others to influence my writing and I didn’t want to fall victim to the kind of comparison that I knew would have the power to derail me finishing my book. Now that’s it’s in the final stages of proofing I’ve dove back in head first to soaking up all the books I’ve missed over the last year and it reminded me just how much I love to read and how many inspiring and God loving people there are out there pursuing this same passion. @valwoerner is pretty much my soul sister through her book Grumpy Mom takes a Holiday. It’s the kind of truth we all need to hear that helps us embrace a rich life that is not self centered but other centered. If you have ever met your other half (the grumpy mom that sometimes appears) I encourage you to give this a read and find out how to send her packing! My reading view doesn’t hurt either 😜

Hi! I’m Episode 22! I learned about @mamaneedsbox when listening to Jenn be interviewed on @themomwantsmorepodcast about her subscription box company! I was blown away by a few key points of that interview 1) we were both Florida gals, 2) she just took a huge leap of faith and started this box company much like my leap into writing a book, 3) she spelled mama the same way i do and 4) we had the same definition of “self-care” which is not the one you see floating all over the internet. I reached out to her because I wanted an opportunity to talk with her about how we can change the self-care label and get more women to embrace it guilt free! So Mama, do yourself a favor... put in some earbuds, grab a cup of coffee and give it a listen and then plan your next self-care... or soul care activity! Maybe it’s subscribing to @mamaneedsbox 💜

One of the biggest benefits of being a working mama is showing my girls they can aim big for their own lives. This week, Ella went to a camp that teaches kids about life skills and business. Today she was CFO of their Bank of America after learning about banking, applying for business loans, personal banking and applying for jobs and interview process. Such an awesome experience we are blessed to have close to our home. That’s a wrap on JA Biztown camp! Here’s to our little CEO 👩‍💼

My summer reading just arrived! Can’t wait to dig into these two! I put reading on hold during the intense writing and editing phase of the book because I didn’t want others words to influence my own, so I have been on a real reading spree lately to catch up! Just finished Bob Goff’s Love does and It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way by Lysa Terkuerst. I usually have a good fiction book going simultaneously on the iPad so i can read in the dark. But when it’s a non fiction book I prefer to hold it and mark it up and smell the pages! What are you reading? Have you read these?! #workingmama #authorlife #workingmotherhood #workingmoms #workingmom

Oh Vacation Bible school! It is single handedly one of the greatest summer activities that has the potential to mount the most Working mama guilt. Our church, like most, does this for a few hours of each weekday morning for one week in the summer. If you’re a working mama with kids in camp and no one to do the VBS drop off and pick up you feel so much guilt because your kids are missing out. I decided a few years ago that VBS was just too important for my kids to miss... it was where I came to know Jesus personally as a child and where my faith strengthened and became independent of my parents. So I would use the vacation time, the flex time, the friends who could car pool and fill in babysitters to give my kids this experience. This week is little miss’ first time to get to experience it and big sisters last time! So thankful for a church that invests in this ministry and gets our kids excited about faith... even if we sometimes have to jump through hoops to get them there! #workingmom #workingmotherhood #workingmoms #workingmom
